6 Week Corset Design & Construction

This course is designed to teach students how sew a corseted bustier top with supportive bust cups. In this class you will use a premade-standard corset pattern (fit to your size) to create a bustier with boning, lace up back with rivets or loops, an underwire and plush underwire guard.

Course Details

PREREQUISITE: Students must demonstrate an intermediate level sewing proficiency.

WHAT’S INCLUDED: The price includes the use of sewing machines, hand tools, steam irons, large scale craft paper, workbook and ALL FABRIC AND MATERIALS and included. All supplies are included with this course; fabric, lace, underwire, boning, horsehair trim, elastic, rivets, underwire guard. *limited to current selections

WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING: Water bottle and ink pin. Students are welcome to bring their own sewing machine and fabric, if desired.

HOMEWORK: Depending on the student’s sewing pace and complexity of project, there will be sewing homework to ensure project is completed during the 6 week period.

ROAD MAP - WHAT’S NEXT: This class can be taken multiple times until there is a mastery of the technical skills. Each time students will create more advanced and complex variations of the basic pattern. In the Intermediate Lingerie Sewing course students learn how to draft structured corset patterns and begin working with more difficult materials, bust cup draping and inner structures.

DURATION: 18hrs, Classes meet once a week for 3 hours each session.

LOCATION: 4917 Schaefer Rd, Suit 200 Dearborn, MI 48126 - Entrance and parking in the rear.

COST: $340 - Split payment plans available for an additional $25 processing fee

Course Objectives and Schedule

Students will develop the following core skills.

  • Design and sew a corseted style bustier top

  • Conceptualize and identify the intricate pieces of the sewing pattern and how to adjust for better fit and to create unique design variations.

  • Design a look with a one or two part mesh, lace or sheer bust cup

  • Practice techniques for sewing with satin and other silky and delicate materials.

  • Learn how to insert desired hardware including boning, underwire, snaps, loops and/or rivets

  • Practice various seam finishing techniques including surging, and creating an encasement for the boning

  • Insert horsehair trim if applicable
