6 Week Intermediate Garment Construction
Now that you have firm understanding of the domestic sewing machine and it’s components, it’s time to take your skills to the next level! In this class you have complete control over what you decide to make. During this course, we take on the role of a design consultant. We are here to help you understand how your fabric selection will impact the final design output and wearability of your project, what techniques, tools and finishes you will need as well as timing/pacing your work.
Course Details
PREREQUISITE: Students must know how to properly thread and use a domestic sewing machine.
WHAT’S INCLUDED: The price includes the use of sewing machines, hand tools, steam irons, craft paper, workbook and custom designed large scale sewing pattern.
WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING: Water bottle and ink pin. Students are welcome to bring their own sewing machine. You may purchase fabric in studio or bring your own.
HOMEWORK: Depending on the student’s sewing pace and complexity of project, there will be sewing homework to ensure project is completed during the 6 week period.
ROAD MAP - WHAT’S NEXT: This class can be taken multiple times until there is a mastery of the technical skills. Each time students have complete control over what they decide to make. They can also move on to other specialty classes such as Linger sewing and couture sleeve design.
DURATION: 18hrs, Classes meet once a week for 3 hours each session.

COST: $240 - Split payment plans available for an additional $25 processing fee
Course Objectives and Schedule
The primary objective of this course is to gain an in depth understanding of the characteristics and uses of various materials. Many self taught sewist struggle with understanding how fabric selections will impact their final design outcomes. Additionally, this course will teach various methods for sewing an exposed zipper and allow students to create projects from their own sketches/inspiration pictures.
Students will:
Learn about fabric composition and characteristic including drape, finishes, qualities and structure.
Practice top stitching
Learn how to insert a zipper and use the machine to create buttons/button holes
Create detailed designs with design elements such as patch pockets, panels, ruffles and more
Practice working with knits and/or complex materials including leather, vinyl, satin, silk and fur.
